An example of a custom-designed TENAX® product for use in liquids, is TENAX® in the form of flat discs. These discs contain only fibers from the known polymer TENAX®. These discs are applied to measure pollutants in water at low ppb levels with HPLC, thereby avoiding labour-intensive liquid/liquid extraction.

Another example is TENAX® product in the form of a plastic bar or having a sheet structure.

A further specialized development concerns the use of TENAX®-based sheet materials for the protection of sensitive components and materials during space missions to Mars.

In these applications, the material is valued for its thermal stability, low outgassing characteristics and resistance to harsh environmental conditions encountered during transport and operation in space-related environments.

to know

  • TENAX® has high thermal stability. The material is stable at temperatures up to 350°C. The normal desorption temperature is 300°C.

  • TENAX® is best used for volatile and semi-volatile substances (boiling point 100-450°C) in the carbon range of C6 and C30, although recent experiments show that even smaller molecules can be efficiently captured and analyzed.

  • We supply stable products at room temperature. More sensitive compounds, such as vitamin A, can be supplied with gel packs (temperature around 0°C) or dry ice (-78°C).

  • In general, the desorption process regenerates the material. Unfortunately, it can happen that complete desorption does not occur during the adsorption of a large amount of contaminants, as a result of which the contaminants may be visible in subsequent experiments.

    It can continue to be reused. However, depending on the application, this may be a maximum of 100 times.
