TENAX®-TA and TENAX®-GR are both porous polymer adsorbents used in thermal desorption tubes (TD tubes) and gas chromatography for air sampling and analysis. The main difference is that TENAX®-GR is a composite material made by adding 23% graphitized carbon to the standard TENAX®-TA matrix.

TENAX® has high thermal stability. The material is stable at temperatures up to 350°C. The normal desorption temperature is 300°C.

TENAX® is best used for volatile and semi-volatile substances (boiling point 100-450°C) in the carbon range of C6 and C30, although recent experiments show that even smaller molecules can be efficiently captured and analyzed.

In general, the desorption process regenerates the material. Unfortunately, it can happen that complete desorption does not occur during the adsorption of a large amount of contaminants, as a result of which the contaminants may be visible in subsequent experiments.
It can continue to be reused. However, depending on the application, this may be a maximum of 100 times.
